Xuhui District, Shanghai, China
The original floor plan of Apartment S was characterized by several small secluded rooms and a long central corridor without daylight and any other quality for lingering. New wall breakthroughs placed along the same axes evoke memories of “enfilades” found especially in classical French castle design. They change the apartment to a bright, generous spatial structure. Sliding doors provide privacy when necessary. Decorated with pixelized oil-painted artworks of a Berlin artist, they resemble more art canvases than simple door panels. The furnishing and the different custom-made wall cupboards are simple and classy using precious materials and following a fresh colour concept.
