In winter semester 2012, Buschmeyer + Cai cooperated with Professor Adolf Krischanitz, Professor of Architecture and Urban Planning in the Berlin University of the Arts, on a teaching project of wood pavilions. This Project is located on the riverbank of the Grand Canal in Tongzhou, Beijing, China. 21 Students took part in this project. They were divided into seven groups, each of them working on an individual wood pavilion for living. The students developed the project from architectural design to construction. Should the pavilions be built, they will be used as boutique hotel units.
The different designs of the wood pavilions, according to Professor Krischanitz, are “developing the character of simple artefacts. They evoke an atavistic desire to inhabit those objects between nature-like modality and artificial mechanics.“
